City teams attend to high volume storm related electricity faults

11 May 2026

The City of Cape Town’s Electricity teams are actively on the ground, attending to a high number of service requests across the city. Please note that high call volumes and storm-related damage may result in longer outages. Repairs are carried out only when it is safe for teams to do so.

‘We apologise for any inconvenience caused while our teams attend to a high number of service requests in areas of the city.

Strong winds and heavy downpours may continue to damage electricity infrastructure, leading to a high number of service requests. Please note that it is unsafe for our teams to carry out electricity work during heavy rain, strong winds, or flooding. Electricity restoration will be undertaken as quickly as possible, but only when conditions are safe. Residents are advised to keep cellphones charged and ensure backup devices such as Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units and emergency lights are charged and available when required.

‘We remind residents to report their electricity faults to the City via our service channels to only use one reporting channel when reporting so that duplicate service requests are avoided as far as possible,' said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Alderman Xanthea Limberg.
